But at some schools, students are drilling another key idea: motivation.

“Good, better, best. Never let it rest; until my good is better and my better is best.”

Mantras like these — or daily affirmations — are popular in elementary and middle schools, and can be pages long. Teachers say they reinforce core values, like working hard or going to college. Youth Radio stopped by a couple classrooms around the Bay Area, to find out what the affirmations mean to students and teachers.
