On Monday, thousands of teachers and staff from United Teachers Los Angeles went on strike for class reduction, better wages and increased staffing.

It’s the Los Angeles Unified School District’s first strike in 30 years. Even though it rained all day, the union said more than 50,000 teachers, staff, students and their families showed up to make their voices heard.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently released a budget proposal of $80.7 billion in funding for K-12 schools and community colleges for 2019 to 2020. He hopes his new proposal can satisfy some of the needs teachers are striking for.

Check out some of the top videos and photos from Monday’s demonstration.
