On May 8, Kehlani dropped her sophomore studio album “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.” Upon its release, “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t” hit #1 on Apple Music charts, which is a first for Kehlani. The highly-anticipated project has been stirring up attention since her last EP, “While We Wait” was released last year.

The Oakland artist gives us a concise blend of R&B-pop on “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.” The album has a run time of approximately 40 minutes and 15 tracks with two of them consisting of skits. Kehlani includes features from Tory Lanez, Jhene Aiko, Masego, Lucky Daye and James Blake.

Kehlani explained the meaning behind the album cover, saying in a press release, “The album cover is a depiction of the never-ending duality of ‘good’ and ‘bad.’ It’s a tale of perspective. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, but clearly, something has gotten my attention. Paired with the back cover, we come into the question of is the grass really greener on the other side? Good things are good… until they aren’t. Then, were they ever really good?”

In addition to the album, Kehlani also dropped a new video for “Open (Passionate) (Quarantine Style)” which falls in line with the previously released “Quarantine Style” music videos she’s been dropping. With the shelter-in-place order that is currently in effect, Kehlani has been taking the time to exercise her newfound appreciation for editing and directing music videos under her newly-formed venture “Honey Shot Productions” with longtime collaborator Brianna Alysse.
