Chicago and other Cook County residents can now register online to receive information about when and where they may be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Residents who fill out the form will receive regular updates about vaccine availability. The form asks for name, address, age, ethnicity, whether you are an essential worker and if you have a high-risk medical condition.

Another Illinois county, Lake County, created a similar registration system and, as of last week, has 150,000 people registered.

The Cook County Health Department serves 2.5 million residents and is planning “some direct vaccinations,” according to the department’s website.

Evanston, Oak Park, Skokie and Stickney Township all part of Cook County are not served by the county’s health department as they each have their own.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that after health care workers and long-term care facility residents get the vaccine, the next group includes people ages 75 and older and essential workers.
