Angelic Hoodrat
Released late last year, Kenny Mason gave us a glimpse as to what his debut project would sound like with “Angelic Hoodrat.” Mason spoon feeds us with the angst that comes with running scams.
Lean
Mason flexes his singing ability with “Lean.” The young rapper yearns for a loved one to share his experiences with, a pretty timely theme given the state of the world right now.
Chevron
At first listen, you’d think this song is missing several features from any of the artists that attended Return of the Dreamers III sessions. Mason gracefully floats over the track, fully in control, he gracefully speeds up and slows down his flow as necessary. Simple, yet clever bars like “all my energy go into these raps, all your energy go into apps” are enough to put a smile on anyone’s face. Also wouldn’t be mad at a “Chevron” remix.
Anti-Gravity
Kenny Mason brings his vocal talents to the front with “Anti-Gravity,” initially wailing at the song’s intro, and quickly evolving into a confident rage. The production starts to build up in the same manner with a hazy drum loop followed by a head-bobbing distorted guitar and hard-hitting synths. This song is a lot in all the best ways possible.
HIT
Mason’s viral song “HIT” had many wondering about the mysterious Atlanta native. “HIT” showcases Mason’s personality, sprinkling comedic skits throughout the track, alongside a catchy hook about scamming and hitting licks. Although “HIT” is a huge departure from the rest of Mason’s debut mixtape, “Angelic Hoodrat,” it’s a much-needed light-hearted jam amongst the dark themes that surround the project.
