A ‘Father’s Job’ Shouldn’t Be Limited to His Daughter

“A father’s job is never done” is a quote we always hear. But which gender are they exactly referring to in this fatherly law?

Rapper-actor T.I., talk show host Wendy Williams and comedian Chris Rock said that “a father’s job is keeping his daughter off the pole.”

But what about a father’s job to his son? Why isn’t there a saying for that?

“Because sons can’t get pregnant,” T.I. said, according to Complex. “Me and Lil Duval call it thot prevention hours. Keep your daughter off the pole. You spending time going to daddy-daughter dances and taking her on trips where it’s just you and her, those are thot prevention hours.”

A father’s job should be inclusive to all of his children, no matter their beliefs, sexuality and most importantly, gender.

The same policing that fathers use with their daughters should be the same patrolling to handle their sons. Men, in fact, young men, need guidance just as much as a woman does to be mannerable and respectable in today’s society.

Although women are viewed as more vulnerable and defenseless than men, this doesn’t mean neglect raising a son into being a respectable man just like you raise a daughter to be a proper lady.

“A father’s job is to pass down the entirety of his wisdom to his children, and a father’s responsibility is to ensure he collects sufficient wisdom to pass down,” tweeted @SaveYourSons.

The keyword is “children,” not just a selected few and not only a specific gender.

Society appears to automatically force men into toxic masculinity, meaning that a man has to be courageous, dominant and lack all other real human emotions to be deemed masculine, a protector and a man. This perception gives parents the notion that they don’t have to raise their sons with the same authoritative teaching as their daughters.

It’s okay for their sons to be the ones throwing money in a sexist manner to other parents’ daughters as if they’re a prize, but when it comes to their own daughters, it’s a different story.

Although girls can sometimes be more demanding, this doesn’t mean to direct most of your attention to one rather than the other. Raising a son without any guidance can steer him in the wrong direction.

The way parenting is reversed for different genders creates the problematic society in which we vicariously live. It stimulates all the injustice people face daily. Sons should have the same amount of attention, strict parental guidance and other firm rules daughters do.

Fathers shouldn’t just aim to keep his daughter off a pole, but also to keep his son off the streets, treat women with respect and not like sex objects.
