Poet and activist Amanda Gorman will be honored by the Ms. Foundation for Women for enacting change and leading the way for future generations.
The Free to be You and Me Award will be given to Gorman at The 33rd Gloria Awards: A Salute to Women of Vision on May 20.
“Her unbridled passion for poetry and the written word has cemented much-needed messages of power, agency, and hope across generations,” said the foundation in a press release.
For the second time in its 33-year history, the Gloria Awards will be honoring policy-igniting, culture-changing women virtually. The event will feature speakers such as the foundation’s President and CEO Teresa C. Younger and a musical performance by Joy Oladokun.
“We selected this year’s theme – JOY UNMUTED – because joy is an act of resistance and through jubilant music, inspirational messages and powerful moments of sisterhood, we emerge triumphant after the past year of strife and challenges,” said Younger.
