A Florida street will be renamed to honor Trayvon Martin who was fatally shot in 2012.
The road in Miami-Dade county will now be known as Trayvon Martin Avenue. The road leads to his former high school, Dr. Michael K. Krop Senior High.
In 2012, Martin was visiting his father in Sanford, Florida when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer. Martin was unarmed and walking back from a convenience store with candy when he was shot.
Zimmerman was acquitted under Florida’s controversial stand-your-ground law. Martin’s death has been a catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement.
