Why Black Lives Matter: Baltimore Teens Share Their Insight

In the Fall of 2017, Wide Angle Youth Media asked a group of students explore the theme “Why Black Lives Matter” through short personal projects. Each took a different approach as they studied the history of the movement and race relations as they pertain to their hometown of Baltimore.

From those efforts came a collection of short films exploring themes of intersectionality and how different systems impact race in Baltimore.

Here’s just a sample of what’s in the collection, which paints a broad picture of the lived experience of black youth.

Joelle Faison comes to grips with her own identity.

Maidson Hall explores being pulled between a black and white world.

Tayla Brown makes the case that being black shouldn’t mean having to hide your feelings.
