We found ourselves discussing this story in one of our recent editorial meetings. Here’s Raphael Johns’ take:
“I figured it was satire — who needs a case that looks exactly like a gun, when young people of color are being murdered just for holding a hair brush. I hope this doesn’t become the next fad, but I know exactly who’s going to buy it: the same sort of kids I went to high school with. Suburban white kids who don’t understand what the problem is with calling people n*gga, kids cops will drive home if they get drunk instead of arresting them. But for the rest of us, we don’t live in a world where the police are going to think twice about your cell phone case before showing you their very real gun.”
