Why Cyber-Bully?

Today, the internet and social media sites are becoming more commonly known and are steadily increasing with the amount of people that use them. But there is also another thing that is rapidly increasing and that is cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying is one of the top reasons why teens are committing suicide or attempting too; always depressed, cutting themselves or have low self esteem. Cyber-bullying can be very damaging to teens especially to the ones who are already going through a lot at home. I was once cyber-bullied and I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror.

Since I was little, my sweet sixteen was the one thing I have always looked forward to in life. But when that day came, the unexpected happened. I was cyber-bullied by a friend of mine because I didn’t send him explicit photos of me. I never thought this could happen to me, especially by a friend and on my birthday. I stayed in bed crying. I didn’t want to get up or show my face. I felt as if I didn’t know who I was anymore. But I knew it was best if I told someone so I got up and went to go tell my older sister, honestly! It was very hard to even get the words out to tell her. But when I did, she helped me through it and told me to stay calm. After I talked to her, I went to my mother. My mother is a big inspiration for me; she knows me like no other so she knew exactly what to say. She told me to lose all connections with that person, and I did. It took me a couple of weeks before I started feeling like myself and being able to go out without worrying about anything or feeling as if everybody is starring at me. With the stories I have heard, and the story of my own, I feel that no one should have to go through being cyber-bullied.

The only reason why cyber-bullying is continuing is because people are enabling it by liking the post/picture instead of letting the person know that it is not okay. People should not use the internet to pick on each others’ flaws.
